“I’m popping down to the bodega for a slice of vegan cheesecake, some phosphate free soap, and some organic frozen okra,” is a thing you say never, unless you’re lucky enough to live near the Brooklyn Museum and the new diner-meets-store, Longevity.
Think of it like this: Longevity is the something-for-everybody classic diner awash in Gwyneth Paltrow’s vital glow. Their motto is, “Long live you & our planet.”

Drop in after a long afternoon viewing Judy Chicago’s “The Dinner Party” at the Brooklyn Museum, and you’ll want to linger at the counter and stools near the floor-to-ceiling windows. They flood the airy, wedge-shaped space with light, even more so than the gleaming glass case filled with vegan and gluten-free cakes and cookies to go with your organic coffee. The staff reports the vegan chocolate-chocolate cookie is their best seller, but the soft, wholesome banana chocolate chip evokes first-wave vegetarian 1970s Laurel’s Kitchen—in a good way.
The long menu is best navigated by those who, in When Harry Met Sally… fashion, know exactly what they want. Breakfast means choosing a regular or gluten-free bagel or bialy with ghee, cold-pressed olive oil, raw coconut oil, organic nut butter, organic cream cheese, tofu spread or hummus. Then consider organic raw honey, avocado, wild salmon and cage-free eggs. This is to say nothing of the smoothies, cold-pressed juice bar, or the lunch items like an arugula salad with tempeh sausage and chipotle vinaigrette or a wild shrimp salad sandwich with avocado and arugula, or the grill turning out burgers, pasta, panini and Mediterranean options such as lamb kebabs, shawarma and falafel.
New Yorkers are not usually stumped by the paradox of choice but if so many options prove too much, go with the classic order.
“I’ll have what she’s having.”
